Cayo Levisa
This key is located off Pinar del Río's northern coast, where travelers arrive after a 30-minute boat trip from Palma Rubia. It has three kilometers of excellent beaches and 23 diving sites and a coral reef inhabited by 500 species of fish, 200 species of sponges and large populations of mollusks, crustaceans and other marine animals. A particular attraction in the area is the existence of trigonias, which are considered the oldest living fossils in Cuba.
Las Terrazas
This community is located in Sierra del Rosario and it was designed as a small city with basic facilities for its urban functioning and an architectural style based on the harmonization of buildings with the landscape. It has beautiful white houses with colorful roofs, surrounded by ponds and gardens. La Moka Hotel is also close by in the San Juan Valley is at the foot of Loma del Salón
Peninsula de Guanahacabibes Reserve of the Biosphere
It is located in Sandino at the western end of the country ans is a land of forests, with prosperous cedars and mahoganies, which was declared a Reserve of the Biosphere for having noticeable biographical and scenic values, on land and at sea. The area has an important flora and fauna, as well as high biogeographical and landscape values. Its leafy semidecidual forest on hollow limestone, with several caves, treasures archeological remains. Birds like Tocororo, and the zunzuncito (species of hummingbird) or fly bird are abundant in the area. The coral reef of the Reserve is very well preserved and the Reserve itself contains two Natural Reserves, “El Veral” and “Cabo Corrientes”; and the National Park of “Guanahacabibes”.
Sierra del Rosario Reserve of the Biosphere
It is located at the eastern limit of the Guanibanico mountain range, in the Province of Pinar del Río. The area contains a varied flora and fauna with outstanding species of birds, favoured by the humid tropical climate which is at the same time characterized by abundant precipitations that have conditioned the development of rain forest areas with height sometimes over 30 meters, where there are nearly 800 species of plants, 34% of them are endemic.
Viñales Valley
It is located in Sierra de los Organos andi t is one of the most well-known and attractive areas in Cuba. It has an exceptional landscape with a combination of its natural beauty, preservation of the environment and the harmonious actions of men on small fruit crops, forage, and specially tobacco plantations, whose traditional methods for planting and production make Cuban cigars to be famous worldwide and known as top quality cigars. Viñales town, located in the Valley is a traditional settlement of farmers. The town has a main street with galleries of columns in both sides, and houses roofed with red tiles.
Soroa is the Orchid Garden
Located in Soroa, this garden is the largest in the country. It covers an area of 35,000 square meters and holds more than 20,000 plants of 700 species. It also has thousands of specimens of ferns and trees that turn this place into a unique site in Sierra del Rosario. The first species of orchids were brought to Soroa in 1948 by the rich Spanish owner of the place, Tomás Felipe Camacho, who was considered the person with the deepest knowledge in Cuba about the world of colors and fragrances. This beautiful place still keeps valuable specimens from the 19th and 20th centuries.
